Formwerk Berlin
Built the way Bauhaus built — every element justified by function.
Brand identity, visual system, signage, posters, business cards, tickets, print collateral
Challenge
A museum dedicated to Bauhaus design needs an identity that can hold its own next to the work it presents. Too reverent and it disappears into the archive. Too contemporary and it undermines the institution's credibility.
Our Approach
The visual system was built on the same principles the museum celebrates, grid, geometry, hierarchy, restraint. Rather than referencing Bauhaus aesthetically, we worked the way Bauhaus worked: every element justified by function, nothing added for decoration. The tagline Bauhaus Neustart, a new beginning, shaped how the system was designed to feel: historical roots, forward momentum.
what we made
Formwerk Berlin explores the development of a contemporary visual identity across signage, layout structures, and environmental design to ensure clarity, consistency, and adaptability at multiple scales. At its core, the brief was to create a brand that felt modern, functional, Bauhaus inspired. Built from geometric forms, bold typography, and modular grids, the identity balances structure with flexibility, reflecting both precision and creative movement.
